Native Youth Centre
An innovative regional hub for Indigenous youth empowerment.
The Need
Urban Indigenous youth, Canada's fastest growing population, are the strong, resilient, gifted leaders of tomorrow. Today's youth deserve better outcomes than previous generations, and yet in many cases, these young people don't get to realize their full potential.
History has put Indigenous youth today at a disadvantage. The challenges they face are significant: they are confronted with higher rates of homelessness, mortality, overdose, early pregnancy, and mental health concerns, while also facing lower educational attainment, employment, and income rates than their non-Indigenous peers.
Despite these obstacles, we see the resilience of Indigenous youth, and their ability to succeed. When we provide space for them to feel a positive sense of belonging, and to connect with culture and community – where they know that their voices are not only heard, but that they matter – these young people thrive.
UNYA sees 26,000 youth visits annually. We have played a transformational role in the lives of many Indigenous youth in Vancouver, but there is so much more we can do. By increasing our capacity through the Native Youth Centre, we expect to double the number of Indigenous youth we are able to serve.
Vision
Realizing Our Vision
Realizing Our Vision
UNYA has a philanthropic goal of $6 million to build the Native Youth Centre. With your help, we're confident we'll get there.
The Native Youth Centre is opening doors not only for Indigenous youth, but for the whole community. This project presents an exciting opportunity for us all to take meaningful steps on the path to reconciliation. Every contribution we receive will help us create a community of caring in support of Indigenous youth.
Many partners have already joined us in our efforts to make this a reality. Through major partnerships with Suncor Energy and the City of Vancouver, we have secured $19 million in land for the Native Youth Centre. With growing support, and land for the project secured, we are well on our way. But the Native Youth Centre won't get built without your help.
Ways to Help
Ways to Help
-
Donate to the Native Youth Centre Today
Donating is a great way to meaningfully contribute to reconciliation, and the best way to support the creation of the Native Youth Centre. In addition to cash donations, we are also able to accept donations of securities and mutual funds. Because the CRA does not apply capital gains tax on donations of publicly traded securities, a donation of securities or mutual fund shares is the most efficient way to give charitably. We’re able to accept these donations through Canada Helps, the largest processor of online security and mutual fund donations in Canada. Click on our donate button to get started.
Making a donation - large or small - is the best way to support the creation of the Native Youth Centre.
