Cultural Wellness Counsellors

The Cultural Wellness Counselling team works out of our Native Youth Health & Wellness Centre and supports self-identified Indigenous youth ages 13-24. The Counsellors integrate cultural knowledge, identity, and values with modern counselling practices. Rather than seeing culture and mental health as separate, we recognize that culture is an important part of well-being and identity.

  • For self identified indigenous youth ages 13-24 who are wanting one to one counselling with a focus on culture as therapy. Youth gain skills and knowledge on how to take care of themselves, while also giving space for their stories and experiences.
  • A safe space in a one-to-one setting to share what is on their hearts and minds, while being a witness to their journey by supporting them along the way. Counselling has a cultural approach and lens by bringing in cultural teachings, and opportunities for youth to further strengthen themselves.
  • Meeting one to one in the office, or sometimes out in community. Also providing cultural workshops/events and ceremonies and with a focus on wellness and culture.

Working alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers to offer meaningful teachings and experiences that allow youth to learn, grow, and share with one another and with their families. By creating space for cultural learning and connection, the Counsellors support youth in discovering how to care for themselves in a good, grounded and culturally-rooted way. With open hearts and minds, we provide access to culture, ceremony, and workshops to empower youth.
