Alaska Bigeagle, Secretary

Alaska Bigeagle is Plains Cree and Stoney Nakota. They were born on Treaty 4 territories and have had the privilege of growing and playing on unceded Squamish territory. Alaska started coming to UNYA as a youth participant in 2015. They have learned so much at UNYA and they joined the Board of Directors in 2019 as a youth representative.

Alaska has been a front-line worker since 2020 and has been helping to support vulnerable Indigenous people and youth. Including working in environments such as Women’s Supportive Housing, Friendship Centre (Newo-Yotina), Overdose Prevention Sites, and hospitals within Vancouver’s and Regina’s Urban Indigenous communities.

In their education journey, Alaska has graduated from NEC in 2019 and NVIT in 2021 with an Associates of Arts Degree. They have since studied at the First Nations University of Canada with the hopes of graduating with a Bachelors of Indigenous Social Work degree. During their academic journey, they have served as Vice President of the Student Association at NVIT and have served on FNU Student Society.

Alaska is the first cycle breaker in her family. They work hard to heal themselves and empower others through culture and ceremony.
