Young Bears Lodge

Young Bears Lodge (YBL) is a culturally-based healing lodge for Indigenous youth ages 13–18 who want support in reshaping their relationship with substances. Grounded in Indigenous teachings, ceremonies, and protocols, YBL provides a safe, supportive space where youth can focus on healing, reconnecting with culture, and building strength for the future.

  • The program runs for up to 20 weeks (5 months), divided into four cycles based on Indigenous teachings, ceremonies, and protocols.
  • YBL operates as a 5-bed residential lodge, offering a substance-free environment in two live-in cycles each year.
  • In June and December, YBL runs a one-month transitional day program to support youth entering or leaving the lodge, helping them carry teachings back into their community. This takes place at UNYA’s head office.
  • Youth receive wraparound support, connecting them with long-term resources like nurses, Elders, schools, and counsellors to continue their healing journey after treatment.

Healing Through Culture

At YBL, healing is grounded in culture. Youth engage in daily activities, ceremonies, and teachings while having the option to return home on weekends to share knowledge and apply what they’ve learned. Families play an important role too, with monthly meetings, ceremonies, family nights, and counselling that strengthen bonds and ensure youth are supported throughout their journey.
