Ensuring every First Nations child gets the care and support they deserve.
What is Jordan’s Principle?
Jordan’s Principle is a child-first principle that aims to eliminate service inequities and delays for First Nations children. It ensures that any public service ordinarily available to all other children must be made available to First Nations children without delay or denial.
In 2005, Jordan River Anderson, a First Nation child from Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba, passed away in hospital at the age of 5 while governments argued over who should pay for his home care. His story led to the creation of Jordan’s Principle — a commitment to make sure First Nations children get the help they need, when they need it, without delay
How We Support
Jordan’s Principle is a federal initiative that provides funding so First Nations children and youth (regardless of where they live) can access the services and supports they need.
This can include:
- Health supports, like medical supplies or therapy
- Social supports, like counselling or cultural programming
- Education supports, like tutoring or school supplies

Program Activities
The Jordan’s Principle Service Coordinator supports the Vancouver Lower Mainland area and is available to:
- Ensure children and youth have access to the services they need, when they need them
- Reduce the stress of navigating service systems, including Jordan’s Principle applications
- Link families to provincial and federal resources
